Privacy Policy

The short version
You can write and send a FOIL request with this site without an account and without giving us anything. We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking services.
If you use the site without an account
Nothing you type is stored on our servers. The request text is composed in your browser and stays there until you copy or send it yourself.
If you create an account
Then we store, in a Cloudflare D1 database:
- Your name and email address.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple: the account identifier that provider gives us, and the OAuth tokens needed to keep you signed in. We never receive your password.
- For each sign-in session: a session token, its expiry, and the IP address and browser user agent that started it.
- For each request you choose to save: its category, subject, body text, status, and the dates you record for filing, acknowledgement, and production.
Cookies
Signing in sets cookies whose names begin with improvecortland. They exist only to keep you signed in. If you never create an account, this site sets no cookies of its own, and it stores nothing in your browser’s local or session storage.
Analytics
This site is hosted on Cloudflare, and Cloudflare adds its Web Analytics beacon to pages as they are served. That measurement is Cloudflare’s and is governed by Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We do not add any other analytics.
Who else sees your data
Nobody, other than the infrastructure that runs the site: Cloudflare (hosting and database) and, if you use social sign-in, Google or Apple as the identity provider. We do not share, sell, or transfer your information to anyone else. The public-records request you send goes to the City of Cortland because you send it — that is the point of the tool — and what you put in it is your choice.
Deleting your data
Email barkleesanders@gmail.com and ask. Deleting an account deletes its sessions, linked provider accounts, and saved requests along with it.
